This test is used to find out the cause of calcium imbalances and to evaluate parathyroid function. This test can also diagnose and make a distinction between the 3 stages of hyperparathyroidism and can diagnose hypoparathyroidism.</p>
<p>Hyperparathyroidism is when there is an abnormally high level of parathyroid hormone in the blood, which causes bone weakness through loss of calcium. Hypoparathyroidism occurs when there is a low concentration of parathyroid hormone in the blood, which causes muscle spasms due to calcium and phosphorus deficiencies.</p>
<p>Symptoms associated with hypercalcemia (higher than normal calcium levels) are fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, and thirst.</p>
<p>Symptoms associated with hypocalcemia (lower than normal calcium levels) are abdominal pain, muscle cramps and tingling fingers or toes.</p>
<p><strong>Recommended For:</strong><br>
Those who have abnormal calcium levels and are experiencing symptoms associated therewith; Those who are undergoing surgery for hyperparathyroidism; To evaluate function of parathyroid glands.</p>
