This test is used to screen for, detect, and monitor treatment for congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), which is a group of autosomal recessive diseases characterized by a deficiency of cortisol and an excess of ACTH concentration.</p>
<p>This test is also used to monitor cortisol replacement therapy and evaluating infertility and adrenal and ovarian neoplasms.</p>
<p><strong>Recommended For:</strong><br>
A woman who experiences increased growth of facial and body hair (hirsutism) or other symptoms that could be related to elevated male sex hormones (virilization).</p>
<p><strong>Special Notes:</strong><br>
An early morning collection may be requested; it may also be requested that the blood sample be collected at a specific time during a woman's menstrual cycle.</p>
