This test measures the level of the protein AAT in blood. It evaluates the cause and risk of emphysema and/or liver dysfunction due to alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.</p>
<p>A low level of AAT in blood indicates you may have alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. The lower the level of AAT, the greater the risk of developing emphysema.</p>
<p><strong>Recommended For:</strong><br>
Those who develop emphysema before age 40; Those who have a family history of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.</p>
<p><strong>Special Notes:</strong><br>
Overnight fasting is preferred.</p>

Arsenic commonly causes toxicity due to excess amounts in the drinking water in certain regions worldwide or due to industrial exposure. Toxicity can cause vomiting, dehydration, anemia, nervous dysfunction, elevated blood pressure and death.</p>

<li><strong>Gastrointestinal:</strong> Severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, bloody or rice-water diarrhoea</li>
<li><strong>Cardiovascular and respiratory:</strong> Hypotension, shock, ventricular arrhythmia, congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema</li>
<li><strong>Neurologic:</strong> Lightheadedness, headache, weakness, lethargy, delirium, encephalopathy, convulsions, coma, sensorimotor peripheral neuropathy</li>
<li><strong>Hepatic and renal:</strong> Elevated liver enzymes, hematuria, oliguria, proteinuria, acute tubular necrosis, renal cortical necrosis</li>
<li><strong>Hematologic:</strong> Anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, disseminated intravascular coagulation</li>
<li><strong>Other:</strong> Rhabdomyolysis, garlic odor on breath, delayed appearance of Mees lines.Patient must avoid all seafood for 72 hours prior to collection. Seafood consumption two to three days prior to specimen collection can markedly elevate levels of total arsenic in urine.</li>

<p>This dietary form of arsenic is nontoxic and is comprised primarily of arsenobetaine and arsenocholine. Inorganic arsenic is used for industrial exposure monitoring.</p>

Drinking water containing excess arsenic, industrial exposure, monitoring chelation therapy for toxicity.</p>

This test is used to find out the cause of calcium imbalances and to evaluate parathyroid function. This test can also diagnose and make a distinction between the 3 stages of hyperparathyroidism and can diagnose hypoparathyroidism.</p>
<p>Hyperparathyroidism is when there is an abnormally high level of parathyroid hormone in the blood, which causes bone weakness through loss of calcium. Hypoparathyroidism occurs when there is a low concentration of parathyroid hormone in the blood, which causes muscle spasms due to calcium and phosphorus deficiencies.</p>
<p>Symptoms associated with hypercalcemia (higher than normal calcium levels) are fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, and thirst.</p>
<p>Symptoms associated with hypocalcemia (lower than normal calcium levels) are abdominal pain, muscle cramps and tingling fingers or toes.</p>
