Triglycerides Blood Test

<p><strong>Use:</strong><br> This triglycerides test is used to evaluate the risk of developing heart disease. It is usually ordered as part of a lipid profile and measures the amount&nbsp;of triglycerides in your blood. Triglycerides are a type of fat.</p> <p>Abnormal triglyceride levels can be indicator of heart disease. These levels can be influenced risk factors such as cigarette smoking, hypertension, family history of heart disease, pre-existing heart disease or previous heart attack, men over the age of 45, women over the age of 55 and diabetes.</p> <p>For adults, triglyceride test results are categorized as follows:<br> - Desirable: Less than 150 mg/dL (1.7 mmol/L)<br> - Borderline high: 150 to 199 mg/dL (1.7-2.2 mmol/L)<br> - High: 200 to 499 mg/dL (2.3-5.6 mmol/L)<br> - Very high: Greater than 500 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L)</p> <p><strong>Recommended For:</strong><br> Routine checkup once every five years or more frequently if you are undergoing treatment for high triglycerides or have risk factors of heart disease; Diabetics as triglycerides increase when blood sugar levels or not managed well.</p> <p><strong>Special Notes:</strong><br> Fasting is required 12-14 hours prior to giving blood sample.
